Direct Print refers to the ability to print directly to either Group 1 or Group 2 printers without the use of the Synappx Cloud Print app. When printing directly, the printers will print the document automatically after they have received them. The direct print job will not appear in the Synappx Cloud Print queue on the PC app or in the printers “waiting print jobs queue”.
Any successful direct print jobs will appear in the job history in the admin portal.
Setup
Enable the Printer in Admin Portal
To use direct printing, we first need to ensure that the required printers have direct printing enabled. This can be done via the Admin Portal.
- Login to the Admin Portal using an account on the same tenant as the printers
- Navigate to ‘Devices’, and select the 3 dots to the right of the selected printer, from there select Edit [View Image].
- In the Edit Device area, scroll to the bottom where you will see Allow Direct Printing
- Toggle this to On and then Save [View image]
The next step is setting up the print driver correctly to print directly to the printer with user credentials included.
Configuring the Print Driver for Group 1 Devices
Install the Group 1 device Print Driver.
Once the print driver has been installed, go to the print driver properties and select the Ports tab.
Select Add Port and add a Standard TCP/IP Port using the Printers IP address as shown [View image].
Once added, select the port and click Configure Port.
Ensure it is printing directly to the printer on port 9100 [View Image].
Now the user authentication needs to be input to the driver.
Go to Printing Preferences and select the Job Handling tab [View Image].
- Change Authentication to “Login Name”
- In Login Name type the users “email address”
- Activate User Name and insert the users name (this is not required unless you want to see who is printing at the MFP) [View image]
Now any print jobs sent via that print driver to the device will print out directly [View Image].
